Argentina: Tierra del Fuego

In the morning immediately after breakfast and after we arranged our tickets for the afternoon cruise αλονγ the canal Beagle, drove to the glacier Marsial , located above the town. In comparison with Perito Moreno, glacier Marcial seemed... too little, so we decided not to walk up to the beginning. We took some photos and we started driving to the town Tolhuin, about 120 Km north of Ushuaia.

After a total of 3 hours driving wondered why we went. A lakeside town in the mud, without any interest. Maybe worth just the ride there. Returned quickly and headed to the port to prevent the cruise we had arranged.

Beagle Channel is the sea border between Chile and Argentina and is the channel crossed by the exploratory ships with the missions in Antarctica! Named after the name of the British ship Beagle where Darwin (1833-1834) was a passenger.

Stopped on the rocky island Isla de los Pajaros with birds cormorants, the rocky island Isla de los Lobos with sea elephants and awful smell of fishes the lighthouse Faro les Eclaireurs. After another 1.5 hours we stop at Pigkouinera, an island full of penguins. We saw a few papua penguins with orange legs and many magellanic penguins. Very ridiculous creatures eventually...!

After 2-days stay in... the end of the world, one thing we will never forget. The feeling that this water channel used by the research missions to Antarctica. In our minds we had pictures of icebreakers... from cinema movies. In the evening we ate at Estancia meat again and had wine «Don Valentin Lactado, vino tinto Mentoza».
