Vardousia
11 Jun 2011 - 12 Jun 2011
Destination of the travel was Vardousia mountain in the area of Fokida. We stayed at the village of Athanasios Diakos. We booked a room in the pension «Meterizi» and then had a coffee and ice cream «Ravanis» at the beautiful square of the village. We drove until the village Sykia and had a look of the steep slope of the Gkiona mountain. We continued a little ahead and had a view of the lake of Mornos river. We returned back to Athanasios Diakos and had dinner at the central square of the village.
Next day we started at 9:30 in the morning. We drove along a beautiful earth-road until the refuge of Vardousia, as much as close to the peak of Vardousia because heavy rain was expecting at noon. We started climbing the steep slope with nice views of the meadows below. After 1:30 we reached the highest peak of Vardousia «Korakas». We stayed at the top only for 10 minutes because the rain has begun and thunder birds were often. At the most difficult part of the downhill the rain begun so we got wet and moved very slowly watching every step on the slippery rocks. Fortunately the rain stopped after a while and we ended the downhill in less than an hour. The earth-roads were full in mud but not problem with our 4x4 car.
We changed our clothes and left Athanasios Diakos. We drove to the village Mavro Lithari and had lunch there. Then we drove to Amfisa, but it was too quiet, so we continued to Delfi for coffee.
