This summer we combined summer holidays in Chania with Karpathos, since it is much more easily accessible from Crete. We had a long time to travel and we missed it so much. Travelling with young children is more tedious than we have ever expected.

We drove from Chania to Heraklion and took the ferry to the island of Karpathos. The sea was quite rough and made the journey not so pleasant. We arrived in the evening and drove straight to our room in Arkassa, on the western side of the island. It was already late and we ate at a tavern in the village center, simply grilled, nothing special.

The next day was very windy so we drove to Ammoopi, where there are three nice beaches. Nothing special, just a tourist village with too many foreigners. We returned back to Arkassa and had dinner there in another tavern, but like the previous day, the food was below average.

On the second day we drove to the most beautiful beach of the island Apella with steep mountains and pine trees reaching the beach. The view of the mountains and pines while swimming in the crystal clear waters was unique. In the evening we dine fish in harbor Finiki very near Arkassa.

On the third day in the morning we went for a walk and necessary shopping in the capital of the island Pigadia. In the afternoon we went to the beach Kyra Panagia, a nice beach but small and very touristic. Back to Pigadia for dinner and we tasted makarounes, the famous local pasta and karpathiotician goat, which were very good.

On the 4th day we wandered the south side of the island. We took a dirt road just before the beach of Agios Theodoros leading to the beach Punta which was full of surfers. Weontinued to the beach Michaliou o Kipos next to the airport and then drove to the beaches Christou Pigadi and Damatria in Prassonisi. There was air everywhere and the only somewhat protected beach was the first, "Michaliou o Kipos", so we returned there for a swim. There were very beautiful cliffs covered with sand and shells very impressive and indicated the sea level thousands of years ago. After the evening bath, we had little time and drove to the village of Aspro and had dinner. Again we tested makarounes and stew beef, very well this time too.

On the 5th day we went back to the beach Apella, which we considered among the most beautiful of Greece. On the way back we drove to the beach Achata. In the evening we had fish again in Finiki.

The last day we drove to the northern part of the island and visited the famous village of Olympos. The route was very interesting through a wild landscape. The village itself is quite interesting, with beautiful alleys with incredible sea views. Unfortunately the traditional dressed women own souvenir shops with no interesting content t all. Olympos is a nice village, in a very interesting location on the mountain with great views of the sea and nothing more. Then we drove to Diafani, the port of Olympos. Nothing interesting just had a swim there and drove back to Pigadia. The boat for our return to Heraklion was leaving at dawn at 02:30 so we had plenty of time to eat and walk around.
